These groups are further divided into smaller family units, each of which consists of a single dominant male and up to four females and their young.

Although they are known to forage on the ground, these monkeys are known to spend the most of their active time in trees. They take refuge high up in the trees when they feel threatened. This species uses a somewhat peculiar, ventriloquist-style vocalization as its main mode of communication during which neither their body nor their face move. Males and females typically employ whines and shrills as their most common cries when they are feeding.
